Beliefs: The Stories We Live Inside

Our beliefs shape the way we experience the world. They are the quiet stories we tell ourselves about who we are, what we can do, and what we deserve. Some of these stories lift us up, while others hold us back, often without us even realising.

I’ve spent years noticing the patterns of my own mind. So many times, I acted as if my inner critic was the ultimate authority. “You’re not good enough. You’ll never get it right.” These were stories I had absorbed over time from childhood, from work, from life’s pressures. And yet, the more I listened and questioned them, the more I realised they weren’t truths. They were simply beliefs I had chosen to accept.

The first step is awareness: catching the story as it rises. Then comes the gentle work of questioning it. Is this story helping me? Does it reflect reality, or is it an old pattern speaking from fear? When we sit with these questions, we create space to choose a different story, one that honours our growth, our potential, and our worth.

I often remind myself that beliefs are not fixed. Just as we change, our inner narratives can change too. Each time I catch a limiting story and respond with kindness, clarity, or a small corrective action, I am reshaping the way I live.

Pause for Reflection:
Which story am I currently living inside, and what would it feel like to gently question it today?

Much love & light
